EQUEST Leather Grip Pro

Hi guys I am Gem Gilbert also known as @gemeventing https://www.instagram.com/gemeventing/
Im excited to be writing this blog/ product review for eGlove.

The eQuest Leather Grip Pro is a brilliant leather glove which you can find here:  https://www.eglove.co.uk/horse-riding-gloves/  is not only is a fab riding glove but also allows you to venture on your phone or smart watch, anything electrical that you would usually poke thousands of times , until you give up and take off your gloves to use it. Well there will be no more of that! No cold hand faffing with these bad boys.

The Leather Grip Pro is available in 4 common equestrian colours-  black, navy blue, tan and chocolate brown. I have the navy and chocolate brown. Both stunning colours perfect for any type of equestrian discipline, I use mine for jumping, hacking, Dressage and day to day riding, the possibility’s are endless. However they are the perfect kind of glove for out hacking, I have found as when you see that perfect photo between your horses ears (if your horse is anything like mine you have to be quick to get the ears forward) you can take a photo really quickly and easy!

So the glove itself you ask? You know they are electronic friendly. Now about it’s performance so the leather glove keeps your hands warm as long as the temperature is about 3 degrees. The elastic breathable structure in between the fingers and across the knuckle allows for your hand not to be suffocated and allow the glove to mould round you, also perfect for those competition sweaty palm nerves. The extra grip strip on the edge of the glove is my favourite bit as we all know that one horse that pulls! These gloves are perfect for that, as the grip allows you to get a firm hold of the reins without them slipping out especially on a typical British summers day when the heavens open. I can officially say my hands stayed dry for 30 minutes but the weather was horrendous but it didn’t affect my grip on my reins!

My other favourite feature is how soft the leather is, it is so comfortable and breathable its amazing. The velcro strap allows you to have the gloves done up as tight or loose as you want! And they aren’t just all for adults they do a range for kids also!

How to clean them? Everyone knows how grubby gloves can get and you wouldn’t go out competing with a dirty saddle so why would you go out with gloves. To clean and care for your gloves use a good quality saddle soap and rub it into the leather with a soft cloth in a circular moment that will get your gloves shining!

I can’t recommend eglove enough! The Friendly and helpful service which is second to none, what more could you want?

EDITORS NOTE - We met Gem at the West Country Equine Fair - where she purchased a pair of the leather gloves. She subsequently purchased another pair from the website. We then offered her a pair of the prototype Winter Elite's in blue for next season in return for a blog piece. We simply asked for an honest review. Hopefully you'll enjoy it!  Thanks Gem x

Reviews, Running Gloves

Best Running Gloves !?!?

Ours have won awards...

The title shouldn't be read as a boast (although we like to think so!!), this is more about helping you chose the best glove for a runner - or indeed one for yourself!! ;-)

First things first, choosing a running glove is largely down to personal choice - are you a cold handed person, or actually do you find your hands warm up quickly? You'd be surprised how often I am told "I don't want anything too warm, I hate it when my hands get too warm!"

So let's get the basics out of the way! All of the options I am about to discuss will do the following by default:

  • Wick away moisture - helps keep hands warm as moisture (sweat!) is removed from the inside of the glove to the outside!
  • Keeps your hands warm - to a greater or lesser degree - more of that in a mo.
  • Have a modesty strip and eGlove runner Nikki calls it - snot/sweat wipe area to you and me!
  • Fully machine washable!
  • Silicon grips on the palm of hand and fingers - mainly so you don't drop several hundred quids worth of Smartphone!!
  • Touchscreen compatible fabric on both thumbs and forefingers to allow you to use your device or app of choice in warm, gloved, cosiness!
  • Available in Black / Black - Pink - Black / Green

With that in mind, what are the options?

eGlove Sport is our best selling and multi award winning running glove. It's a thin glove ideal for most people in most conditions. I run in these in temperatures down to -4 or -5 or so, but equally, they help regulate hand temperature, so are great at +10 too! It's a very comfortable glove, quite silky in feel and just does the job brilliantly! Thousands of customers and several awards can't be wrong!!

Alternatively, for those who suffer with cold hands, run in extreme weather or for ultra distances, perhaps the XTREME is a better option? It's thicker, tighter, with a longer double cuff and has the additional feature of Windstopper fabric which helps keep both the moisture and wind out, without compromising the breathability! These have been used in many XTREME Ultra Runs - most recently Shaun Marsden (aka @spontaneousplan) used them thoughout the 230km Arctic Ice Ultra! So, we say that they are like the Sport Run Glove - just more HARDCORE!!!!

Best of all, like all eGloves if you order something that isn't right - no problem, send it back and we will sort you out an exchange or a refund. Check out the glove guide for more info - here.

Our favourite Sports Trackers

Our favourite Sports Trackers!

One of the whole points of eGlove Touchscreen Sports Gloves is that they enable use of Smartphone Apps with your gloves on! So, with that in mind, we've made a list of our favourite ones!!

Don't agree? Have we missed one? Feel free to add your faves in the comments!

1) Nike + - Android / iOS - FREE - For us, this is where it all began - initially it was the only tracker you could get with an iPod Nano (with foot pod attached to your trainers). It synch'd to Daily Mile and was the most exciting thing ever!! Even now, Nike + is a great app with plenty of functionality. I've always found it accurate and easy to use. It's number 1 given it's importance in the eGlove story, but it's not one I use anymore.

2) Strava - Android / iOS - Free - Strava is our current preferred app for running and cycling. I think it's the community element that makes it so good. Personally I don't find it particularly accurate (overstates), and I find the fact it only goes to 1 decimal point frustrating. Also, the verbal feedback doesn't align with the screen (i.e. the verbal says I have done 3 miles say, and yet the screen is 20 - 30 seconds behind!). Hmmm... Am I actually talking myself out of this one? Have I mentioned the community / group element?

3) Map my Fitness / Map my Run - Android / iOS - Free - What I like about this one is the ability to track many different activities. It might not be the most accurate at doing that, but it's better than nothing!! When running, it's as good as anything else I have tried, but I don't know why it's not my preferred option. Good starter app for anyone getting into fitness - especially as it sych's with My Fitness Pal (another app but this time for counting and recording calories and weight!).

4) Zombies, Run - Android / iOS - Free but needs premium subscription - I tried Zombies, Run as I had heard so much about it. I hadn't thought it through though really as I don't like to wear headphones. Oops! So, Zombies, Run! puts you in the shoes of Runner Five, racing to save your life and the people of Abel Township. Zombies, Run! gamifies your running with radio play-style missions delivering an ever-unfolding storyline for players to enjoy as you run. It's pretty cool!

Others - I've tried Endmondo, Runkeeper and Runtastic (all Free on both Android and iOS) - they are all perfectly fine! In the end the key is to find one that does what you want it to! I think I am going back to Nike + perhaps because it's familiar!

Anyway, what do you think? Leave a comment with your faves and why!!
