The ONLY wet day this month...
So I wrote recently on Twitter that I was finding my running mojo again - Naas (in Ireland) parkrun was the start, although I had been running 2 or 3 times a week most weeks in 2016. Anyway, Mrs Yeo (aka @nikkiyeo), and her run friends Dean and Martin (no, not Dean Martin...) talked me into being part of the team for the East Farm Frolic!
Basically, it's a 12 hour relay (with a squeakly chicken as the baton) around beautiful countryside and farmland in Dorset. Like most White Star Running events, this is semi serious, with a large heap of fun thrown in!! There were solo competitors, pairs and fours (which was our category!), and everyone had the aforementioned chicken and an ankle timing chip - although it looked like carnage and to be honest I am not sure winning was on anyones mind!!
The weather was awful - not quite eGlove (the pre-eminent run glove for top runners :-D ), which made for interesting terrain, but it was FUN. Huge fun. Tough, but fun!! I've no doubt it would have been EVEN more fun had the weather been better, and as they have camping there for the weekend, that would have been a riot (noted for next year!!)!!
The Lovestation at 4km of a 6.2km course had all sorts of sustenance to keep everyone going, including vodka, cider, beer as well as the, ahem, more traditional fayre... Anyone not stopping was greeted by a "REAL RUNNER" shout by everyone there, along with a good natured chuckle!
Then, to cap it all, the race bling was awesome!!
Nikki has previously done a White Star Running event and said that was equally we organised and enjoyable. The WSR ethos is "Keep running rural" - and on the basis of Sunday, I'd have to agree! Thanks guys...
